This story was updated on June 21, to reflect the potential cost of the fine. Micron met with the regulators first, back in May, and Samsung and SK Hynix have subsequently found investigations launched into their memory activities too. This all comes just a few months after a firm in the US launched a potential class-action lawsuit against them for the same thing. Every PC needs memory and every PC also needs the best gaming monitor.
Yes, every PC. While the US lawsuit sues on behalf of US citizens, the Chinese government take it on themselves to limit growing monopolies in the market and ensure a level playing field. The highly-profitable DRAM market is in their sights due to the massive market controlled by only a few major companies. The original report from DRAMeXchangewhich outlined the initial Chinese investigation, also expects this to limit price increases due to the huge demand for memory that comes from China.
So while the Chinese authorities, and the US lawsuit, may eventually curtail ongoing pricing woes, it may well be too little too late for At least for China, these memory constraints have led to new business taking on memory production backed by the Chinese government, which has led to a rocky relationship with the US, and some market watchers believe this could have a knock-on effect on the wider market.
Whether this could be good or bad for memory costs remains unclear, as watchers still are unsure of the impact the increase in production, and the potential trade war, could have on the market.
As we mentioned earlier, Samsung, Hynix, and Micron are being accused of price-fixing in a lawsuit currently chasing class action status in the US.
The allegations surround the companies colluding to actively limit the global supply of memory and drive up prices and revenue. The proposed class action has been filed on behalf of US smartphone and PC users who bought hardware between andand suggests that Samsung, Hynix, and Micron have worked together to cut supply and subsequently force consumers to pay higher and higher prices for their memory technology.
The law firm, Hagens Bermanhas filed the suit after carrying out its own independent investigation into suspected antitrust behaviour and they have claimed the investigation has uncovered proof of wrongdoing.

Samsung, SK Hynix, Micron and other partners are all active members of the Hybrid Memory Cube Consortiumbut only Micron and perhaps Altera enjoys many hidden advantages from working directly and intimately with Intel.
None of this help all you folks with "sucky" Micron-stuffed GTX cards, lol.
Bad memories… Micron, Samsung, and SK Hynix are facing a potential $8bn antitrust fine
That's what the other thread is about. Just saying that Micron, Samsung, and Hynix have each leapfrogged to the top before but in my opinion it looks like Micron is climbing fast into top position and will be hard to knock down once NVIDIA's extreme-tier and GPUs hit market. How to Identify Original Genuine RAM & Fake RAM DDR3 DDR2 DDR4
Last edited by Korth; at AM. Last edited by sk2play; at AM. Justin directed this towards the Asus 's and is a good topic. I imagine this goes for all Asus 's and it's true, Micron memory does not overclock as well as Samsung memory but Asus nailed it with their vbios update. Micron has a tendency to provide bulk Enterprise and OEM memories. The thoroughly-unexciting but thoroughly-reliable stuff used in servers and stuff, not the extreme out of band stuff sought by performance enthusiasts and prized by overclockers.

With B-dies it would appear you need to hit really low timings to get the best latencies, whereas Hynix is a tad more forgiving and Micron seemingly also being a bit more forgiving, but neither can hit as low latencies and Samsung if you can hit the right timings. How is this possible? Joined Mar 18, Messages 4, 1. Manufacturing improvement duh. B-die is not even in production any more.

In fact, my timings are better than in the link above. Joined Aug 9, Messages 0. Interessting, looking forward to gamingcomparisons. Joined May 24, Messages 32 0. Taraquin said:.

In ryzencalc, the main difference between Samsung and the others is that you can run tRFC much lower and on coffee lake and previous ryzen-gens it could account for quite a bit of performance.Coronavirus: Empty streets across the globe.

For anything Ryzen, yes do not use Hynix on that platform, period. I don't have Ryzen, I have Coffee Lake. Last edited by SoleSurvivor ; 22 May, am.
Hynix is the underdog from the big 3. Probably much better as the noname chinese chip makers, but if you can, always go Samsung or Micron. Hynix is a bit slower and less stable if you overclock, for not much money less. Omega View Profile View Posts. Originally posted by SoleSurvivor :.

It's not something the manufacturer mentions on their spec sheets. I think these modules are Hynix but I'm not too sure. What software do you reccomend for this? Buck View Profile View Posts. Cool, I didn't know about that tool.
Apparently I have Micron chips. Hynix doesn't do well with Ryzen as mentioned in the first reply. All major enthusiast memory module makers came out in full force this week at Computex. Corsair, G. Skill, GeiL, and Avexir. I spent a good deal of time talking to all the players and discovered a commonality: all of them indicated that Samsung makes the best memory chips.
I also made the rounds with motherboard manufacturers asking them the same question.
Since motherboard makers do compatibility testing with all major memory modules, they also have a good understanding of what works best. Their answer? The same as the module makers.
RAM makers: Samsung makes the best DRAM chips
Samsung, of course, is the leading maker of DRAM chips. In overclocking circles, it was considered the best modules for overclocking. The modules ran ultra cool, and overclocked easily from MHz to over MHz, all without using heatsinks. Unfortunately, Samsung doesn't make the Green series anymore.
But their chips, according to the vendors that use them, are still the best. It's often difficult to know what chips are being used when buying memory modules, but I'm definitely demanding Samsung going forward.
